Hey there!
I hope you enjoyed your Summer and managed to stay cool in the hot weather of the past couple of weeks, believe it or not it was hot even up here in Scotland ;) This time is when I get to review and plan my Autumn/Winter to-do lists and schedules. Many makers and artists will know this feeling really well, but we start thinking and making work for Christmas in at the end of Summer or sometimes even earlier, so my mind is already in the cold, dark and cosy mood of Winter, thinking about making items that bring light and joy to us in those months. Enough about weather and seasons! Let's talk about CLAYFULNESS WORKSHOPS! I am super excited to tell you that the Clayfulness Workshop in May went really well and we had so much fun. Here is a wee review from one of the participants: "It was so relaxing to spend an evening playing with clay, I really loved feeling the material in my hands and Julija had such a calming presence. The mindful vibe encouraged my creativity and I'm super chuffed with the pots I made!" - Anja "Julija guided this workshop, allowing us to ground ourselves and to feel with the clay as material, giving us space in a way that it felt natural and familiar; where we could chat, drink something, and enjoy delicious food, while making beautiful ceramics to take with us after being in fired in the kiln." - Gabriel Following the fun of the first workshop I am really happy to be announcing new dates for the upcoming workshops! You have many dates to choose from through October all the way to March as well as a couple different themes and making techniques. All of the dates are bookable on my website where you can also find more information about workshops, FOLLOW THIS LINK. In all of the workshops we will be using my own collected materials for the local landscapes and remote Scottish places. Making every piece unique in many different ways. If you are purchasing a workshop as a gift for your loved one, do get in touch and I will send you a lovely little gift certificate to share with them :) I am offering a £15 discount for students and self-employed artists and makers when you book your workshop! Get in touch with me via email [email protected] and I will send you the discount code. and then there is the ONLINE SHOP! This year I was only able to make one small collection in the spring, but since then I have been busy creating and testing some new wild materials that are becoming beautiful earthy glazes - perfect for the seasons that are coming. A new Autumn collection will be launched on 3rd October at 7pm. In the meantime my online shop is open in case you wish to place an order from the last available pieces from previous collections, THROUGH THIS LINK. That is it for now, but stay tuned for the upcoming updates on the Autumn collection, you will be the first one to know :) Thank you for being a part of my journey and I wish you a beautiful transition into Autumn :) With love, Jxx

This newest collection is the first one, where tableware is glazed with my own wild materials glazes and in terms of items it includes literally everything - cups of all sizes, with handles and without, olive dishes, pasta bowls, breakfast bowls, small, medium and large plates, etc. The second part of this shop update is a growing collection of the Impressions pieces. These include materials like sea glass, rocks and ceramic shards found on my local beaches. Here is a quick link and I hope you will love these new pieces as much as I do: https://julijaceramics.square.site/summer-2024 PS: If you live in Edinburgh you can collect your order for free from my studio. Use coupon code FREECOLLECTION at checkout. Collections will be on Wednesday 12th and Friday 14th between 11am and 5pm. Hello, my loves!
It is already mid-March, I hope you are having a nice start to 2024 and are looking forward to spring which is just around the corner. I BRING YOU SOME SUPER HAPPY NEWS! My first online shop of 2024 is now live! You can visit it by clicking here, and keep reading if you wish to know more about my new work. Since January I have been gradually working on a number of new collections that include wild clays and materials, and in this first shop update, I am introducing the first two - the IMPRESSIONS and REMNANTS. IMPRESSIONS collection is all about raw and unprocessed wild materials. I use them to capture and express the numerous types of impressions these materials possess, from impressions of nature and time on the materials to the impression the materials had on me and how this changed from where it was collected to the studio environment. By literally impressing the material onto a thrown vessel while the clay is still soft, the material bonds with the vessel and together they form a new impression on you. REMNANTS is a collection of tableware which is made with a variety of stoneware clays and porcelain, which I kept after finishing a number of different projects over the last seven years. These clays are very different in their colour, texture and character, all of which I embraced in this collection. Consequently, the pieces are completely unique and cannot be repeated. During the glaze firing some pieces developed unusual finishes of even cracks where the material shrunk at different rates. All of these unpredictable changes are embraced and welcomed in this collection. I hope you will enjoy these new pieces :) My shop will stay open until the end of April and until then I will be adding some new pieces to the shop as they come out of the kiln. In other news, I am currently working on a larger collection of tableware, for which I am developing a selection of wild materials and wood ash glazes. These will hopefully be completed in the next couple of weeks so watch out for updates on Instagram @emporiumjulium Thank you so much, if you have read all the way to the end of my newsletter. I am truly grateful for your support, by liking, commenting and sharing my work on social media you are helping me grow my audience and by purchasing my work you are making my work possible, which is more than I could ever ask for. Thank you! Yours, Jxx My dear lovers of all things pottery,
I am yet again blown away by your support for my creative studio and especially your amazing response to my latest Wild Clay collection, which is just about to sell out. If you have not yet secured your favourite pieces, there are still a few left here: > Cups & Mugs, incl. Wild Clay Collection > Wild Clay Teapots This year has been such an incredible journey of exploration and discovery and I am so happy to share the results of it all with you. My online shop will be closing by midnight on Sunday, 17th December. This should allow for a pre-Christmas delivery in the UK and, most likely pre-New Year delivery worldwide. If you are missing any last-minute Christmas Tree decoration or a small gift for a loved one, the last few of these little bells may just do the trick. > Bells - Christmas Tree Ornaments Following that, I will take a bit of a festive rest over the next few weeks, before starting planning my 2024 collections and working on a few orders that have already been commissioned. I will be back online with new pieces in late Spring 2024. I wish you a merry and warm festive season and the best possible start to 2024! Yours, Jxx Hello there!
Time is flying by and before we know it the holidays and end of year celebrations will be here. I'm sure we all can't wait for that moment :) As I write this message to you, my last glaze firing is on and I will be releasing my last shop update of 2023 on Wednesday 29th November at 7pm! There will be some very special bowls and cups made with wild clays and slips that I was working on this year, similar to the autumn cups made with Edinburgh clay slip. Recently I have been really enjoying making teapots and if kiln gods are good to me, then I will be thrilled to share these very special pieces with you. So keep an eye out for the online shop update, but if you are an Edinburgh local, I would love to invite you to our Open Studios on Saturday and Sunday (2nd-3rd December) from 12-5pm. Furthermore, there are two more chance to see me and my pots be at two Edinburgh markets;
Looking forward to seeing you either online or in person. Love, Jxx My dear friends,
I am so happy to let you know that this Thursday at 7pm I will launch my October 2023 shop update. In this latest collection I have some special pieces that I am super excited to share with you - a collection of cups decorated with slip I made from local Edinburgh clay. I collected this clay in late spring this year and after a number of tests over the summer the final test finally resulted in a slip that is what I was aiming for. It fires to a beautiful deep red colour, very autumnal ❤️ The cups are available in three sizes and the brush strokes on the cups are made with hand made brushes I created from different types of dry grass I gathered in and around Arthur's seat in the heart of Edinburgh. There will also be a small collection of Sandscape vases and tableware including soup bowls, olive dishes, pasta bowls and cups with and without handles. The shop will stay open until the 9th December and I will be adding new pieces to the shop over the coming weeks. I have some other wild clay limited edition pieces coming up, these will include a selection of pieces with clay from Orkney, West Highlands and other amazing places. So watch out for a reminder email some time in late November. I hope you are enjoying these first days of autumn and I look forward to seeing you in my shop. Yours, Jxx |
